LIVE in Concert — banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck & The Flecktones present the merry melodies from their thirteenth record, Jingle All The Way (2008), which won the 51st Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. It also topped the US Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz charts, showcasing exquisite renditions of beloved Christmas classics like their GRAMMY-nominated cover of Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and traditional tunes such as “Silent Night,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “What Child Is This,” “Christmas Time Is Here,” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” by Tchaikovsky. Fleck, a world-class banjoist who smashed instrumental boundaries with his dazzling mastery over jazz, folk, bluegrass, and classical music, assembled his iconic quartet — The Flecktones with Victor Wooten (bass), Roy Wooten (percussion), and Howard Levy (harmonica, piano) — to honor the yuletide season’s spirit through stunningly inventive symphonies.
Backing them is former Flecktones member Jeff Coffin, who departed the group to serve as a permanent saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band. Coffin reunites with his band brothers alongside Russian musical outfit Alash, championing vocal traditions from Tuvan (Mongolian) throat singing. Our guests contributed to the “Jingle All The Way” Tour’s titular album and are eager to rejoice in its festive offerings with utter delight.
